Project Ideas

Implement a process for communicating Court Watcher reports to the public. This information can be used to determine first, which judges are allowing an inordinate amount of continuances in cases which jeopardize withness standing and evidence, and second, those public defenders and prosecutors who consistently request continuances due to lack of preparation.

Hold a series of meet and greet the candidates for the next set of elections (not just mayoral). Make sure that the right questions are asked and answered. Find a way to communicate the answers (or non-answers) to the public prior to the elections.

Plan and implement a program that places annual career counseling in New Orleans RSD and Orleans Parish public school at the 10th grade and up levels. This would be a program that helps a child develop a learning plan that leads them toward a career goal, not just a way to merely get a high school diploma.

Enhanced parenting programs for young mothers. These programs would not only provide information on challenging child care issues, but provide sessions in first aid, child discipline, budgeting, nutrition and early childhoold education at home. The project is proposed to be instituted by partnering with free and low-cost health clinics throughout the city.

Plan and implement a program to be turned over to the NOPD of mobile precincts to be used in high crime areas. These would be refitted RV's that could be driven into high crime areas as a "storefront" precinct.

Plan and implement storefront job counseling offices in at least 3 areas of the city (Jackson Avenue corridor, New Orleans East, Upper 9th Ward). These offices would offer sessions in interview skills, job assessment and guidance, provide clothing and help participants maneuver through programs to secure child care.
